Primark Introduces Click-and-Collect Option as Profits Soar

Coming off a notable 46% surge in adjusted operating profit to £508m for the 24-week period ending March 2, Primark has revealed plans to roll out its click-and-collect service to all its outlets in the United Kingdom by the close of 2025.

The fashion giant saw its revenue rise by 7.5% in the first half, hitting £4.5bn, with like-for-like sales up by 2.1% and a margin increase from 8.3% to 11.3%.

Growth has been linked to the establishment of new stores and strategic pricing tweaks made last year in response to inflationary pressures.

In the United Kingdom, sales climbed by 4.3% compared to the corresponding period last year, propelled by a 3.6% uptick in comparable sales.

After a successful 18-month test phase, Primark will extend its click-and-collect service to all 184 stores across England, Scotland, and Wales by the end of 2025, broadening its product offerings available for online purchase to encompass men’s apparel, selected home and lifestyle goods, and more.

Paul Marchant, CEO of Primark, remarked: “Our experimentation with click-and-collect over the last 18 months was geared towards enhancing convenience for our customers while remaining true to our brick-and-mortar retail philosophy.”

Associated British Foods, Primark’s corporate parent, reported strong first-half results and anticipates significant gains in profitability and cash flow, surpassing initial projections for the fiscal year.

Notably, a marked improvement in full-year profits was already foreseen by the company.

Marchant further commented: “We are now confident in the viability of our model to deliver on our dual objectives and underpin our expansion ambitions.”

“Positive customer feedback underscores the convenience our service offers, attracting new patrons in the process. I look forward to witnessing continued growth and providing more individuals with compelling reasons to opt for Primark and explore the unparalleled value and assortment we present in our stores.”
