Uniqlo Initiates Legal Action Against Shein for Allegedly Mimicked Handbag

Alleging infringement, Uniqlo has taken Shein to court for purportedly duplicating its popular shoulder bag.

Filed at the Tokyo District Court, the legal complaint contends that some of Shein’s bags bear a striking resemblance to Uniqlo’s viral Round Mini Shoulder bag.

Uniqlo demands an immediate cessation of the sale of the disputed bag by Shein and seeks compensation for the damages incurred.

The viral Uniqlo bag, dubbed the ‘Mary Poppins’ shoulder bag, has garnered extensive online popularity, amassing millions of ‘likes’ through product videos over the past year.

Fast Retailing declared, “The company initiated this complaint as it has ascertained that the imitation products peddled by Shein closely mimic its own product.

“The proliferation of these imitation products by Shein significantly undermines the high level of customer trust in the quality of the Uniqlo brand and its products.”

Shein is entangled in other legal disputes as well. In December, Temu launched a lawsuit against the retailer, citing “mafia-style intimidation of suppliers” and copyright concerns.

Temu alleged that Shein violated its intellectual property rights and unlawfully detained its merchants, employing various tactics to hinder its rival’s growth in the US.
