The Declared Insolvency of Dutch Branch of JD Sports
JD Sports’ affiliated company, Sports Unlimited Retail, located in the Netherlands, has been announced as bankrupt.
A subsidiary of Iberian Sports Retail (ISRG) under the ownership of JD Sports, Sports Unlimited, operates 52 outlets throughout the Netherlands, functioning under the brands Sprinter, Aktiesport, and Perry Sports.
The management of the stores will now be overseen by a trustee assigned by the district court of Amsterdam due to the bankruptcy.
JD Sports acquired Sports Aktiesport and Perry Sport in 2016 following administration proceedings and has subsequently shut down over half of the establishments, with numerous remaining units being rebranded as Sprinter stores.
Nevertheless, Gerco Vonk, the director of Sports Unlimited, assured the employees that the 29 Dutch stores operated by JD Sports are unaffected by the insolvency.
This development arises as JD Sports is actively pursuing international growth to cement its position as the “dominant global powerhouse in sports fashion.”
The company is targeting the opening of 250 to 350 stores annually as a component of the new CEO Régis Schultz’s five-year strategy. The prominent sports apparel retailer has stated its commitment to achieving profits exceeding £1 billion this year.
